The most  powerful  wizard in history, Lord Voldemort, murders James and Lily Potter but mysteriously disappears after failing to kill their  son, Harry. Professor Dumbledore, places the one-year-old orphan in the care of his uncle and aunt, Vernon and Petunia Dursley .

For ten years, living at number Four Privet Drive, Harry is treated like a servant than a member of the family and is forced to live in a cupboard under the stairs. Shortly before his eleventh birthday, a series of letters addressed to Harry arrive, but Uncle Vernon destroys them before Harry can read them.

It is Harry’s eleventh birthday and at midnight, Hagrid meets Harry to deliver the letter and to tell Harry that is a wizard and has been accepted into Hogwarts School, where Hagrid works and Dumbledore is Headmaster.

A month later, Harry leaves the Dursleys’ home to catch the Hogwarts Express from King’s Cross railway station. There he meets the Weasley family, who show him how to pass through the magic wall to Platform 9¾. While on the train, Harry meets two fellows first years, Ron Weasley, who immediately becomes his friend, and Hermione Granger, Harry also makes an enemy, Draco Malfoy. Draco offers to advise Harry, but Harry dislikes Draco for his arrogance and prejudice and rejects his offer of “friendship”.

They encounter a series of obstacles and adventures in the school but are very smart to solve all of them.

In the end, the Stone has now been destroyed. The school year ends at the final feast, during which Gryffindor wins the House Cup. Harry returns to the Dursleys’ for the summer holiday but does not tell them that under-age wizards are forbidden to use magic outside of Hogwarts.

The story takes place in Westeros, medieval Europe and tells the story of some families (houses) and their conflicts.

At the beginning of the story, Lord Eddard “Ned” Stark executes a deserter from the Night’s Watch, the militia protecting the immense wall of ice, stone and magic that protects the Seven Kingdoms. Ned is recruited by King Robert Baratheon to replace Arryn who is dead, as the King’s Hand.

Arryn’s widow Lysa believes Queen Cersei and her family, Lannister, poisoned Arryn. Ned eventually discovers that Robert’s legal heirs including Joffrey are in fact Cersei’s children with Jaime, Cersei’s brother and that Arryn was killed to conceal his discovery.

After this discovery Ned was arrested and murdered with false acusations.

Then Robb Stark, prepared an  army and marched south in response to his father’s arrest and death.

Robb chooses to not ally himself with Robert’s brothers, Reinly and Stannis, because both have claims to the throne.

Há contrastes – as imagens belas e “festivas” – aparecem recorrentemente a natureza. Os cenários naturais servem para mostrar a beleza incrustada nos cenários campestres e nas estações, e também para despertar os sentidos para experiências sensoriais em imagens cheias de vida e de cor. Há também imagens pesadas, palavras pouco esperançosas e o mesmo sentimento de peso da existência – mesclado com uma visão de contraste menos mórbida da vida. No final parece com uma espécie de testamento da poetisa, que pode ser visto no poema “This is my letter to the World”, onde ela junta a ânsia de compreensão e retrato do mundo com a importância da natureza para sua arte poética. Há toda uma exploração da concepção de Poesia presente nos belos e sonoros versos desse poema.

In 1947, banker Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and sentenced to two consecua tive life sentences at the fictional Shawshank State Penitentiary in the state of Maine. Andy befriends contraband smuggler Ellis “Red” Redding, an inmate serving a life sentence. Red procures a rock hammer and later a large poster of Rita Hayworth for Andy. Working in the prison laundry, Andy is regularly assaulted by the “bull queer” gang “the Sisters” and their leader, Bogs.
In 1949, Warden Samuel Norton meets with Andy and reassigns him to the prison library to assist elderly inmate Brooks Hatlen. Andy’s new job is a pretext for him to begin managing financial matters for the prison employees. As time passes, the warden begins using Andy to handle matters for a variety of people including guards from other prisons and the warden himself. Andy begins writing weekly letters to the state government for funds to improve the decaying library.
Andy and his friends stay in the prison for many years. With his graduation, he helped his the other inmates and the guards. He was very responsible.
Andy is released from solitary confinement and tells Red of his dream of living in Zihuatanejo, a Mexican coastal town. Red feels Andy is being unrealistic, but promises Andy that if he is ever released he will visit a specific place.
Andy escaped through the tunnel and used the prison’s sewage pipe to reach freedom.
